Enhanced Effectiveness in Social Security Disability Report Writing for Children's Mental Health

ACHIEVE CE - EDUCATION SERVICES

Healthcare providers across disciplines regularly treat children whose psychiatric conditions severely limit functioning, yet more than half of initial SSI/SSD applications citing mental disorders are denied because clinical records fail to translate findings into the Social Security Administration's language of functional impairment. This course addresses that gap by converting legal standards into a step-by-step documentation framework. Grounded in recent peer-reviewed research and authoritative policy guidance, this training supplies annotated exemplars, decision-grade checklists, and interactive case analyses. This activity develops competence in Patient Care and Systems-Based Practice through SSA-aligned documentation and interdisciplinary coordination. The goal is to foster defensible, high-impact reports capable of withstanding adjudicative scrutiny. Inside The Dark Minds of Anti-Socials and Psychopaths: The Dangerous Predators and Career Criminals Who Walk Among Us

INSTITUTE FOR NATURAL RESOURCES

This webinar is presented to educate healthcare and mental healthcare clinicians on the characteristics of individuals with criminal behavior called psychopaths who live among us and can pose significant threats to the professional and private lives of health and mental health professionals. Psychopaths are social predators with no conscience or remorse who charm, manipulate, and ruthlessly plow their way through life, leaving behind them a broad trail of broken hearts, shattered expectations, and empty wallets. Participants will learn how to identify the psychopathic predator career criminals who inflict tremendous damage to others but are often undetected and seen as being "normal" and "charming." Several psychopaths will be described along with their common personality-based core beliefs, thinking patterns, emotional processing, and antisocial behaviors that characterize the Psychopathic Personality. Participants will also learn how to discriminate psychopaths from sociopaths and how these individuals differ from many who have a diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder. Dr. Howard will explain why psychopathic criminals are not legally insane and why they do not qualify to be found not guilty by reason of insanity in criminal courts when they commit crimes. The major theoretical models of psychopathy will be presented along with the tests that can identify psychopaths. Participants will learn the differences between psychopathic criminal offenders and non-criminal individuals with some psychopathic traits who may become successful in some areas of life. Attendees will also learn about the effectiveness of rehabilitating psychopaths and which treatment models have the greatest success. The relationship of psychopathy to some rare and extreme levels of interpersonal violent behavior such as mass/school/spree shootings and serial murders will be explained. Finally, at the conclusion of the program, there will be an optional presentation (without CE) describing case histories of some rare individuals who have become psychopathic serial killers for those who desire to attend.

Clinical Supervision

VISTA CONTINUING EDUCATION

In recent years, it has become generally accepted that supervision draws upon knowledge and skills that are different than, and go beyond, those of psychotherapy. Similarly, the ethics and legal imperatives regarding supervision both encompass psychotherapy issues and go beyond them. Because supervision is a triadic rather than a dyadic relationship, the supervisor must always attend to the need for balance between the counseling needs of clients and the training needs of the counselor. This course focuses on legal and ethical issues of supervision with emphasis on the triadic relationship.

Overeating and Obesity: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions

INSTITUTE FOR NATURAL RESOURCES

By the year 2030, half of the U.S. population will be obese (CDC.gov). Ironically, as rates of obesity have risen, so have the rates of weight bias and stigmatization toward individuals of larger body sizes, even within healthcare settings and among healthcare professionals, including physical therapists (Bannuru, 2025; Lawrence, 2021). Such stigma can result in both physical and psychological harm to patients, and it presents a major obstacle in the effort to effectively prevent and treat obesity (Rubino, 2025; Rubino, 2020; Ryan, 2024; Robinson, 2024). Research indicates that these stigmatizing attitudes stem from two main causes: a lack of education and the incorrect belief that obesity is purely a function of eating too much and exercising too little. Obesity is a complex, multifaceted condition driven by diverse biological pathways and numerous environmental factors. The aim of this course is to demystify a physiological process that has long provoked confusion and shame. This course will help physical therapists better understand what causes weight gain, why it is so difficult to lose weight, and why it is especially difficult to keep it off. This course will address a range of weight loss interventions, including pharmacotherapy such as GLP-1 receptor agonists, bariatric surgery, diet, behavioral therapy, and physical activity. An emphasis is placed on the importance of maintaining muscle mass through dietary protein and strength training to minimize the change in energy expenditure with weight loss, as well as strategies to preserve muscle mass while on GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy. Finally, it will address what physical therapists can do to reduce weight bias and stigma in their own practices.

POWER OF INTENTIONAL MOVEMENT

INSTITUTE FOR NATURAL RESOURCES

This INR webinar, "Power of Intentional Movement," explores evidence-based strategies for applying mindful and intentional movement principles to exercise and physical activity to maintain or improve health. Health care professionals will learn how to integrate intentional movement to support physical function, emotional regulation, fall prevention, and cognitive resilience in patients across all age groups and different clinical settings. Mr. Kent Howard will introduce a wide variety of intentional movement exercises, including Tai Chi, chair yoga, mindful walking, and breath-centered flow activities that are adapted for varying levels of mobility, cognition, and ability. Studies show that increased daily physical activity and targeted intention-based exercise routines could be, depending on the situation, as effective or more effective than medications, and far safer. Exercise programs may also be tailored for patients and clients who are unable to walk or have other physical challenges. For example, multicomponent chair-based interventions can improve motor functions and cognition in nonambulatory patients. Health care professionals may also find these exercises helpful for self-care as well, to help reduce burnout and manage stress for better work-life balance.
